populist dictators like Hitler and Mussolini disprove this video because highly educated countries and they spent a ton of money on the citizens
Anglish Scholar
Anglish Scholar - Dag siden
@Sam D26 Hitler and mussolini were similar with spending some points. They were bad dudes but had generous welfare. This video mostly applies to 3rd world dictators A former school teacher, Mussolini’s spending on the public sector, schools and infrastructure was considered extravagant. Mussolini "instituted a programme of public works hitherto unrivaled in modern Europe. Bridges, canals and roads were built, hospitals and schools, railway stations and orphanages; swamps were drained and land reclaimed, forests were planted and universities were endowed".[21] As for the scope and spending on social welfare programs, By 1925, the Fascist government had "embarked upon an elaborate program" that included food supplementary assistance, infant care, maternity assistance, general healthcare, wage supplements, paid vacations, unemployment benefits, illness insurance, occupational disease insurance, general family assistance, public housing and old age and disability insurance

This is for the record.
How democracy fell in America is due to "a resource that dwarfs the productivity of the citizens".
What resource you wondered? Slaves. 1.3 billion of those.
Over 1 billion people in the region starting with alphabet "C" have annual income below one grand, regardless of their hard work. The dictatorship of a certain party starting with alphabet "C" exploited them for over 70 years. In the past decade or two, quote on quote big companies have also joined the "business". The treasure coming from exploiting peasants dwarfs taxing "demanding free citizens".
This is a reckoning, for sins of ignoring the exploit for the past few decades.
Welcome to dystopia.

So, I just had a very horrific thought. If a company made robots that could entirely replace their workforce without rebellion, then that company would become ruler of everywhere.
Think about it, none of their wealth comes from their citizens, and if the machines are sufficiently advanced, then they don’t have to worry about key supporters. Thus they can expand their operations indefinitely, or at least until they reach the limit imposed by resource extraction.
Such a thing could be a glittering utopia, or a despotic hell hole depending on who was in charge of the company.

101Crock - 4 dager siden
@Weromano Oh, you naive fool. If you truly believe that, then I suggest you look at the state of economic inequality in modern democracies. The principle of people want more won't go away, it's just that the people who already have the most will be unopposed.

For all possible shortcomings, a "benevolent dictatorship" would still be far more effective at improving the quality of life in its country, citing the USSR as an example.
The "democracy" part only makes it painfully clear that the people only get what they want if the ruling class wants the same.
Vladimir Pustynskiy
Vladimir Pustynskiy - 3 dager siden
@Rmma One one hand, there is vast improvement in quality of life in every aspect under USSR (education, healthcare, industry and so on) and economic growth unparalleled in Russian history. You might also notice that the political elites got a lot less out of this than they could as "absolute rulers" of the world's second superpower. On the other hand, there is a million or so in purges (I can explain how I got this number, but one or two million is the upper reasonable estimate). The balance is up to you to decide.

What this video says from 14:04 really makes me think. Hmmmm maybe shutting down businesses and schools and not giving people healthcare for free or a UBI at least for the duration of the shutdown played a HUGE part in the Unrest from this past summer up to and including 1/6. That maybe it's too neat easy and clean to say its all about one man. One loud mouth is the whole entire reason that people were willing to do what they did.

It is terrible to realise that all people want to be happy (by money, power or others), and in fact the best way to reach it is the cooperation, but all people choose competition because they are afraid that other people might have chosen competition.
And if someone want cooperation and the other one competition, the second one will won.

@Rmma It's funny that you mention death because thanks to the inept populist leaders the UK is currently rocking 95,000 excess deaths in the year 2020, and America is at 225,000 and just had a riot in the Capitol building leading to several deaths as well. Kinda looks like 'death' is an accurate term from where I'm standing.

Grey's notes on the leader being overthrown by the people only when the army lets them was one of the first things that came to mind when I was watching what was going on in US a couple days ago.
Does anyone really think that people managed to invade Capitol Building without (some of) the riot police letting them in? Sure, there were instances of police taking selfies with the invaders, and they were mentioned in some coverages on this topic, but in my opinion the riot police played a much bigger role in this than what the media outlets give them credit.
