Ok but that last flag is so ugly. Nothing is the same proportion as anything else and the red stripe looks like it wants to be the center of attention, but it clearly isn't because the battle flag is far more interesting. You would expect them to put them on the same side, but instead there's that massive white block that just looks like they ran out of time to draw a flag and submitted it unfinished.
SIDE NOTE: the Flag of the 26th Texas Calvary Regiment and a modified version (lighter blue background) Flag of Terry’s Texas Rangers (1861-1865). Providing some education for all of you moving to Texas, the Great State
@Scottish Banana Clan Their profile picture genuinely looks nice though. And i doubt you have any idea what the person behind the account looks like. However we all know the confederate flags were ugly and so was the movement
i love all these comments hating on confederates. its like some people didnt even know what the war was about. but thats ok, its legal to have your own opinion for now. snowflakes are gonna love some confederate flag here real soon.
@RalOrtTal "Like most wars, the Civil War was a war fought over power and money". This is sort of true but that is because the money *came from slavery* which they feared lincoln would abolish "The South felt the only way it could change this unfair arrangement would be to legally secede and form its own country". I dont know about you but it doesnt sound legal to start a war to gain independance The last part is too long to quote but yes that is true, however irrelevant. Nobody claims lincoln fought the war to abolish slavery, he fought it to preserve the union. However, the south seceded because it wanted to keep the instutution of slavery alive. The southeren leaders even wrote this in their letters of secession. If the southeren states seceded because of taxes and political representation there is no reason for the word slavery to ever even come up in their letters.
@Thunderbird_102 Like most wars, the Civil War was a war fought over power and money. The South, a political minority from 1830 on, was fed up with being pushed around by the North. The unfair 40 percent tariff on cotton was paid by the five Deep South cotton states which financed 80 percent of the U.S. Treasury. These monies were used mostly to subsidize the industrial development of the North. The South felt the only way it could change this unfair arrangement would be to legally secede and form its own country. President Abraham Lincoln, a former Northern railroad lawyer, said no. The North could not survive without the cotton tariff and he would do all he could to preserve the Union. He even encouraged the passage of an amendment to the Constitution (the Corwin Amendment) that would make slavery irrevocable until the 20th century in order to entice the Confederate States to re-enter the Union. This was passed by Congress in March 1861, signed by Lincoln and sent to the states for ratification. Lincoln himself stated in a letter in August 1862 to New York editor Horace Greely, “My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and it is not either to save or destroy slavery.”
1:27 by the way, Russian "forecastle flag", "geus", which is sometimes rised on the front of a ship (technically that's a Jack, but "St. Andrew's flag" naval ensigin is more popular and have stronger association with the navy) looks weirdly similar to Confederate naval Jack
fun fact that isnt fun: the "stainless banner" has a white background to represent the supposed supremacy of white people... don't let anyone tell you the confederates were anything other than butthurt slave owners.
@Ty1er 722 Nobody’s trying to secede, some people are starting to say that maybe we shouldn’t be putting the confederate battle flag on some state flags anymore.
@prismancy pfffffff what are they gonna do, secede? they cant even make it 10 blocks without lighting something on fire, let alone make their own country
The 13 stripes of the flag of the United States also didn't originate with the 13 colonies, rather the 13 stripes already present on the flag of the East India Company.
@Dman Bellic Maybe you didn't read this correctly Things the Confederacy tried to do: Become independent, *keep slavery* , win a war, *keep people enslaved* , and oh yeah, *keep slavery* Lee didn't run the country, and the people who did supported slavery. Neither did Lee try to do anything to stop it, in fact fighting for government trying to preserve it. States rights existed before the CSA, and the most they "contributed" was whining that *freeing slaves* was violating states rights, just like segregationists in the 60s. Getting offended that the CSA tried to preserve slavery is either a troll-take or the opposite of "doing research." Vomiting Lost Cause propaganda doesn't change that.
Actually the north had 5 slave states It was only because of Lincoln they were abolished. I understand you were attempting to meme but it’s odd nobody ever listens to the military generals like Lee. They were against slavery. Lee was Pro-Abolitionist and supported the idea. At the end of the day, like with all wars it was the old and bitter that tricked the young and dumb into killing each other.
Imagine being so fucking manly you manage t be a athlete, doctor, cowboy, hunter, mayor and a president while also taking a bullet in the middle of a speech and continuing AND turning America into a world power
I love how half the comments are just timeless comments such as “haha confederate battle flag is confederate” and “haha military flag that belonged to losing side” like Jesus he’s just explaining that it’s not actually “the” confederate flag come down, like you got something to prove out here that everybody doesn’t already know
@Dawid Messi they aren't obligated to, most were brought here against their will. And some have done amazing things for America. Do you just hate blacks or all races?
@DaRebel You americans really are just stuck in this Cold War mindset. Any other opinion is "muh communism!" ,and try to not eat up Anti-Communist propaganda from the Cold War.
Hey, fellas, stop fighting. All of this is not important. What is important is that Pokemon Go has had a somewhat positive impact on the world, whereas the Confederacy - a largely negative one. Therefore Pokemon Go is better than the Confederacy.
@tester123532456 He turned Germany's economy around by using slave labour. Also I'm sure the fact that the rest of the world dealt with the great depression helped. They blacklisted scientists like einstein (and fermi in italy) so I'm not sure what you mean by "encouraging intelligence." There was only less crime and degeneracy because the punishments were inhumane and the Gestapo and ss were around violating people's rights. Don't take your rights for granted. Don't take your liberty for granted. Our ancestors gave their lives for freedom. It was a society with no freedom of speech or of the press. Workers lived in serfdom under a tyrannical regime willing to pit friend against friend and commit genocide. Also if the germans were so great, how did they lose?
@Sam Mckeen less diversity = more harmonious society with minimal crime, he turned Germany's economy around 180 degrees, intelligence and physical fitness was highly encouraged, less degeneracy and hedonism, etc etc...
A lot of people get their panties in a wad over this flag but forget the fact that a lot of people on both sides of the Civil War died, and a lot of black folk eventually were set free from slavery. It doesn't matter who won or who lost if your end goal of that equation is your freedom today regardless of your skin color. None of you reading this comment right now were ever a slave in that era, nor ever owned one. Welcome to the present day. Your destiny is in your own hands.
@Marco Sheesh to the past only matter what we can learn about it, it's pointless argue about if somenthing we can't change, thanks to the union, in the USA its no more esclaves, besides, if it wasn't for the war, probably esclavery would end a lot later
For people who actually believe that it is the Confederate flag, I have some oceanfront property in Arizona for sale cheap!! Get it while it lasts, they're going to sell quick!!
@Dman Bellic Sure the south had amazing military leaders but the north had more population and industry, the only way I see the south winning is if the Europeans intervened and even then the north could just claim that the war is to end slavery and the Europeans would be forced to back down by thein own citizens.
@Dman Bellic "proof" History books -- Any history book of U. S. History tells of the South's defeat under that flag. The flag is the flag of a loser . I
Well, the Stars and Bars and the The Cross were the ones you saw most often and still do today so am walking away from this video being able to identify the the two MAIN flags that the confederacy used. So now whenever I see those two flags I know it’s the Confederates but I will also keep the other flags in mind just in case.
It would be a pretty big waste of time for a teacher spending time going over all of the confederate flags from stars and bars to the blood-stained banner and explaining how the confederate flag wasn’t the actual flag despite the fact that the citizens of the confederacy used the battle flag anyway when you could just say that the confederate battle flag was the confederate flag. The military used it, the people used it, only the government didn’t. Nobody really needs to know this. It doesn’t change anything about the debate over flying the “Confederate Flag”, it’s just a bit of trivia because you don’t need to know that it’s technically unofficial despite the fact that everyone used it. If you ask the average person who flies the confederate flag what flag it is, they’ll probably either say the “Rebel Flag” or the “Confederate Flag”.
