psssst "arabesque", not *"abaresque". Also, "disapprobation" is not *"disappropiation" Nonetheless, a very soothing reading. I had no idea the story was that short.

So...I'm assuming Poe actually knew what sagacious means and was using it ironically when he applied it to the guy who decided to invite 1000 people from throughout a plague stricken land to come live with him. Because, as the finale of this story shows, that's not exactly "having keen mental discernment and good judgement" so much as it is elaborate murder suicide.
fugithegreat - 2 måneder siden
I love me some CGP Grey and this story fits our zeitgeist, but I don't think this was the best choice of story for him to read. The delivery here is way too matter-of-fact to suit the tone of the story. I watched Neil Gaiman's reading of it the other day, and his delivery sent me swirling into a surreal, dramatic world. This just makes me feel almost like a machine is reading Poe to me.

I am normally a fan of CGP Grey' content, but I really didn't rate this personally. I think Grey' reading is a bit lifeless and the intonation a little strange. For such a dramatic story, he managed to render it quite dull.
